I have heard that the shamrock was a metaphor St Patrick used to help people understand the idea of the Holy Trinity.We will probably never fully understand the concept of the Holy Trinity until we are face to face with God. I think it is more important that we understand the relationship of the Holy Trinity in our own lives. This is the simple explanation I use to teach my son:
God the Father created us and watches over us. God the Son came to show us how to live and forgive us of our sins, and when we accept him as Lord, God the Spirit comes to live inside us to comfort and to guide us.
Regardless of your theological understanding, I hope you will seek daily a closer relationship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Spirit.
